About Vila do Biribiri

The Village Biribiri is a bucolic village in the municipality of Diamantina in Minas Gerais. The name of the village in Tupi-Guarani means deep hole, an allusion to its location between the foothills of a mountain and the bed of a watercourse. Founded in the 19th century due to the Industrial Stamping Company, Vila do Biribiri still keeps the traditions of mining and calm interior. The importance of Biribiri was recognized by the State Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais (IEPHA) to tip over, in 1998, the architectural ensemble. Currently the village is best known for its historic houses, natural beauty and the wonderful and varied waterfalls that exist in the region. Its main attractions are rides through the mountains, plains and rapids, nature walks, a waterfall Watchtower and the Waterfall of ridges. The Village also offers Biribiri guesthouses to accommodate tourists visiting the region.
