About Ilhéus

Municipality of the State of Bahia, the city of Ilhéus has the longest coastline of the State.

The climate in Ilhéus is no different than the vast majority of cities located in the southern coast of Bahia, with humid tropical climate with rainfall during the summer and an annual average of 24° c.

Ilhéus is a city full of sights such as the Casa de Cultura Jorge Amado, the Lagoa Encantada, the Mata da Esperança Botanical Garden, the farms as the Spring Farm, the Recovery Center do Bicho Preguiça for those who like to learn about the lives of animals, the lookouts and of course the various beaches both urban, as on the North Coast. Some of the outstanding beaches in Ilhéus, are the beach of São Miguel, Boca da Barra, praia do Christ, North Beach, sea and Sun Beach and praia dos Coqueiros.

For those who want to play sports in Ilhéus, options do not go missing! The tourist can practice surfing because the waves in Ilheus are one of the best in the State of Bahia. In the rivers it is possible to practice rappelling and Tyrolean also on Apepipe, in the complex of Lagoa Encantada.

Islanders was founded in 1534 and today is considered the capital of the cocoa. The Bahian writer Jorge Amado, adapted the town to write one of his best known novels, Gabriela, clove and cinnamon.

Restaurants abound in the city, where they offer many delights including the Bahian typical food such as Bobo, the acarajé, carne-de-sol, moquecas, Pigweed, and more.
