Diamantina is a mining city well known for its historical buildings, colonial houses, secular churches, exubrante nature and their religious, folkloric and musical culture. In addition, the city was also the birthplace of illustrious personalities of Brazilian history, as Juscelino Kubitschek and Chica da Silva. The name Diamantina refers to the large amount of diamonds ever found in the region. Among the main sights of the city, we can highlight the House of Glory, the Library Antonio Torres, the Old Market, Casa Chica da Silva and the House of Juscelino. In 1938, the architectural ensemble of the historic city center was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage. In the late 90s, Diamantina received the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
