Catastrophe is a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais 120km away from the capital Belo Horizonte. Typical, quiet country town has 5,512 inhabitants Catas Altas according to the last census of the IBGE. Situated at the foot of the Serra do Caraga and cozy resort town belonged to the gold cycle. The first record of baptism found, was celebrated in the old Church of Our Lady of Conception in 1712. It was already outlined the urban cluster that formed around the mining. Gold mining in Sierra Caraga, began in 1708. The destination offers many natural attractions and eco tourism and extreme sports options. The city offers complete infrastructure to receive tourists with lots of hotels, bars, restaurants and agencies specializing in guided tours.
